PARIS, July 3 /PRNewswire/ -- During the course of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union, the French Food Safety Agency (Afssa) is organising a series of meetings in the field of health and safety and veterinary medicine.
While individual Member States must guarantee the reliability and relevance of their own specific organisation, many aspects are also played out on the international stage. Afssa, like all its partners, plays a particularly active role within numerous European and international networks.
The Agency represents France within the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMEA). In addition, Afssa also carries out six Community reference laboratory mandates relative to animal diseases and food hygiene.
Two conferences will bring together the European players to focus on two topics of growing interest: changes in legislation concerning veterinary medicines and risk assessment related to importation of live animals, plants and foodstuffs.
The European legislation concerning veterinary medicines was last amended in 2004 to ensure better clarification and better adaptation of the system. Four years on, some critical points have naturally been identified, both by competent authorities and stakeholders. The aim of this conference is therefore to present these difficulties and consider possible solutions, in the short, medium or long term.
As far as importation is concerned, the aim of the symposium is to share the experiences of various public health players. This exchange should lead to proposals to reinforce and adapt the current national and community system, in particular through the contribution of risk assessment.
Below you will find a list of all the meetings scheduled by Afssa and its partners, including those aimed at professionals from the sectors concerned. The two open meetings are indicated in bold type.
Afssa is a public independent organism contributing through monitoring, alert and expertise to the protection and improvement of public health, animal health and welfare, vegetal and environmental health.
