LONDON, December 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Last night, Qatari Diar and Candy Candy held a public exhibition to display the amended design to their proposed multi-million pound development for the site of the former Chelsea Barracks.

An impressive turnout saw over 250 people attend the Royal Hospital Chelsea State Apartments to view the design of the planned tower block estate of over 600 flats.

There was a 'scale' model at the viewing which many thought did not accurately reflect the true scale of the project. The general feeling of those attending was expressed by some as the wool being pulled over our eyes.

The overwhelming public sentiment towards the re-design was that it was still too high at 103 feet (31.5 metres), too dense, and insensitive to the surrounding architecture. Given the model on display, the height of the tallest building is the same height as the top of the turret on the tower on the corner of Lower Sloane Street and Pimlico Road. Some also thought the overwhelming effect was of a lifeless council estate.

There will be another three hour public viewing on Saturday between 9:30am and 12:30pm at the Royal Hospital Chelsea State Apartments (entrance via Royal Hospital Road - London Gate entrance). All local residents and other interested parties are advised to attend and express their views before the Qataris and Candy Candy resubmit their design to Westminster City Council.
