Lamont Williams
About Lamont Lamont Williams is currently a senior communications manager at the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) in Bethesda, Maryland. Lamont has more than 16 years of experience leading and managing the production of corporate, scientific, and in-house communications for a variety of organizations. In addition to developing written content, Lamont has been responsible for establishing standards, policies, and procedures for ensuring the timely issuance of quality reports, articles, newsletters, speeches, talking points, and other communications. An experienced communications professional, he has worked effectively in fast-paced environments and has facilitated the flow of ideas and information among senior leadership, management, subject-matter experts, and staff to optimize the effectiveness of the messages they sought to disseminate. Lamont’s career experiences span the full range of informational product development. He has been a proofreader, copy editor, production editor, substantive editor, developmental editor, writer, and project manager. He has been regarded facility wide as the “go-to expert” for all editorial matters. Before working for AABB, he was a government contractor, performing writing, editing, and project-management services for the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, among other clients. He also was managing editor of the National Center for Research Resources’ NCRR Reporter and the National Cancer Institute’s Frontiers in Science newsletters. Lamont’s professional interests extend to such fields as medicine, health policy, clinician education, chemistry, astronomy, and physics. In his spare time, he wrote and self-published The Greatest Source of Energy, a book that explores a possible method of combining general relativity and quantum physics. The book was reviewed by two PhD-level physicists. Based on their advice, he currently is seeking a collaborator to produce a fully mathematical version of the work for submission to a physics journal. Among awards Lamont has received are those of “Distinguished” and “Excellence” in the International Technical Publications Competition of the Society for Technical Communication, as well as two “Celebrating Plain Language” gold awards from the National Institutes of Health. A New Jersey native, Lamont holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey, and received training as a science editor at the W.B. Saunders Publishing Company in Philadelphia.
