U.S. policy when it comes to science can be a little confusing. Over 20 years ago, one political party demanded that drugs and devices undergo far more testing before approval. It was a common belief among the more conspiracy-minded that FDA was colluding with right-wing corporations to get products passed.

It made Big Pharma more dominant because suddenly it cost a billion dollars and 10-15 years to get approval. Most companies with success in phase II clinical trials began looking for an exit because they couldn't afford the FDA process. Generics began to decline because no one wants to make a competitor to Mylan's EpiPen if they have to spend a billion dollars and 10 years to prove again that epinephrine and needles work, for the privilege of selling for less money.

This year tha politics have flipped. Now Republicans say FDA is too cozy with corporations.

What really changed was that Robert F. Kennedy, a conspiracy theorist who claims GMOs, weedkillers, cell phones, food colors, and pasteurized milk are ruining our health, became a Republican. And suddenly they distrusted science just as much as Democrats.

Now Secretary Kennedy wants to make things even worse, by eliminating Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) classifications; food ingredients that we know have been consumed without issue for centuries. Yet he can't. Wealthy progressives love the imagery of peasants pushing water through the dried flower petals of the butterfly pea plant to get "blue" color. Cost is no object for Kennedy and his wealthy friends, it is the rest of us that are paying for his fake health halo, but without GRAS this "blue" would never get approved.

Ca 3 (PO 4) 2. Like chemicals? You now get to consume three more, thanks to Secretary Kennedy.

FDA also approved blue color from the red algae Galdieria sulphuraria, for a French company. So much for putting America first.

The government further contradicts itself because in order to get rid of food coloring Kennedy doesn't want and replace it with new versions he told FDA to invoke GRAS and bypass the decade of time and hundreds of millions of dollars it would take to get approval under the maze of regulations he pushed for as a Democratic lawyer at Natural Resources Defense Council.

Is calcium phosphate safe? Sure, but so are the products he is banning. It's a more expensive white color and Kennedy, the wealthy grandson of a criminal who spent a fortune to make his kids legitimate, can't see anything except white. Cost does not matter to him, he can't tell you what a donut costs. he just knows he wants a white that a conpany like Innophos says is health food.

The color isn't the problem in donuts and candy, it's the calories. How does someone running all of health policy in the United States not know that?
