LONDON, November 9 /PRNewswire/ -- 25 year-old Frenchman Antoine Saout has become the most successful French player ever to participate in the World Series of Poker Main Event.
Saout, from Brittany, the underdog of the 2009 WSOP Final, had one of the best performances of all finalists losing a coin-flip hand showdown of pocket eights against Ace-King. A King on the river netted Antoine just under $3.5 million in winnings for his third place title and entered him in the history books with the best ever performance by a French player at a WSOP Main Event Final.
Antoine beat over 6,400 payers from around the world during the WSOP Main Event and became only the second Frenchman in history to be a finalist in the world's most important poker event. He played the World Series of Poker for the first time in July 2009 after winning a ticket for the event on a $50 satellite on Everest Poker.
2009 has been an outstanding year for Antoine. He started playing poker full-time just 18 months ago after leaving college to concentrate on his poker skills. He is now being hailed as one of France's poker legends and one of the country's most successful players in terms of winnings and performances at international tournaments reaching the final table of the WSOPE in London in September 2009 as well as cashing in half a dozen major tournaments since reaching the final table of the WSOP in July.
Antoine was supported throughout the WSOP Final by dozens of French players and guests who made the trip to Vegas especially to cheer him on in true flamboyant French style and backed by official sponsors of the WSOP Everest Poker with whom Antoine signed a deal to join Team Everest in August 2009.
