LONDON, August 31, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP) announced today a partnership with the Royal Liverpool University Hospital to strengthen their infection prevention efforts and promote better patient care by utilizing ASP's proven GLOSAIR(TM) area decontamination technology.

As part of a larger refurbishment project, Royal Liverpool University Hospital has appointed ASP to perform their deep clean decontamination service through the use of ASP GLOSAIR(TM) technology, supporting the ongoing measures undertaken by staff, cleaners and existing ASP infection prevention solutions used by the hospital. GLOSAIR(TM) Area Decontamination technology uses a low concentration hydrogen peroxide dry-mist technology which operates at room temperature to decontaminate a ward or patient room within three hours of operation time. Its proven efficacy[1] ensures that the safest possible environment is created for patients and healthcare professionals. For added convenience, the easy-to-operate ASP GLOSAIR(TM) area decontamination technology is also available for self-service usage by healthcare facilities. Healthcare professionals can decontaminate large and small spaces with ASP GLOSAIR(TM) technology as needed.

The first ward decontamination at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital has already been successfully completed and 14 additional ward decontaminations in multiple hospital sites are scheduled over the coming 10 months.

The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust has made significant advances in tackling Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAIs) to date and has been recognised as one of the winners in the inaugural NHS Liverpool Quality Awards for Innovation and Improvements.

Commenting on the hospital's infection control initiatives, Diane Wake, Director of Infection Prevention and Control at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital said: Patients can be reassured that we are continuing to see significant falls in the number of C. Diff and MRSA cases. We have halved our C.Diff rates in the last year. With a greater emphasis on cleaning and cleaning standards, and the use of innovative solutions as provided by ASP, we have made tackling hospital infections our top priority. Our current performance clearly shows that our efforts are making a huge difference; we have gone from being one of the poorest to one of the best performing trusts in the country for infection control.

ASP's GLOSAIR(TM) area decontamination service offers a safe, efficient and convenient way for healthcare professionals to prevent infection and improve patient care, said Ronan Wright, Business Unit Director, ASP UK Ireland. We are delighted to see the first of this service being implemented at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital to bolster their infection control measures.

While significant progress has been made in recent years to effectively tackle HCAIs, studies conducted by the National Audit Office and the Health Protection Agency have shown that they continue to pose a serious threat to patient safety. Ongoing vigilance is essential to ensuring HCAIs are appropriately prevented and, when required, contained. ASP offers a range of innovative solutions that are designed to provide a holistic approach to infection prevention.

About GLOSAIR(TM) Decontamination Systems

ASP GLOSAIR(TM) Systems use a Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) vapor or mist to decontaminate surfaces and areas not effectively decontaminated by housekeeping which are effective against pathogens of key concern in Healthcare Acquired Infections. The ability of the product to decontaminate quickly and effectively minimises the time that the relevant area - ward or room - is out of use.
