LONDON, November 5 /PRNewswire/ --

- Corporation of London Recognizes Company's Excellent Civil Engineering Work

Global IP solutions provider Global Crossing (Nasdaq: GLBC) is proud to announce that it has been awarded the coveted Gold Award in the Corporation of London Considerate Contractors Award 2007, presented by The Lord Mayor of London.

Open to all contractors, developers and utility companies undertaking building and civil engineering projects in the City of London, the Considerate Contractor Scheme (CCS) was pioneered by the Corporation in 1987 in response to a considerable increase in building works within the City of London. Its goal is to encourage operations to be carried out in a safe and considerate manner, with due regard to passing pedestrians and road users.

On joining the scheme, members abide by the code of good practice and display CCS signs on work sites adjacent to public highways. The scheme comprises a code of good practice, regular inspections by Corporation officers, annual judging and a telephone hotline enabling public feedback.

A benchmark is set for qualification for the Gold Award. During the course of the year, all works are scored and points compiled. Gold awards are only given if the average qualification figure is maintained or passed. Consistency is therefore essential, and the overall score takes all projects into consideration.

"We take our responsibilities to the general public very seriously, especially when some of the digging work that we undertake has the potential to cause disruption," says Anthony Christie, managing director, EMEA, Global Crossing. "Ownership of our network, coupled with Global Crossing's capacity to manage the civil engineering process, allows us to deliver a much higher level of service and enhanced network connectivity to our customers. We're extremely proud to receive this award and will continue to keep up our very high standards."

The award was presented to Karl Sheekey, Global Crossing's manager for civils and cabling, at Plaisterers Hall by Right Honourable the Lord Mayor, Alderman John Stuttard.
