- More than 80% of Nearly 4,000 Participants Attend InformexUSA 2009 to Gather Information about Advances in the Chemical Industry

In a survey conducted at the leading chemical exhibition in the United States -- InformexUSA -- visitors affiliated with the pharmaceutical outsourcing and specialty chemical industries said they remain on the look-out for new chemical entities and innovative routes to chemical manufacturing that may offer new market opportunities going forward. More than 80% of nearly 4,000 attendees said information gathering was the most important or important reason for attending the 25th Annual InformexUSA event in San Francisco, January 27-30.

In terms of actual purchases, 76% of attendees surveyed said they plan to buy chemicals or services from one or more of the 500+ InformexUSA exhibitors this year. These results compare favorably with last year's Informex survey. The top five products and services requested at InformexUSA 2009 can be seen in table 1.

Table 1: Top Five Requests from InformexUSA 2009 Attendees 1) Fine chemicals, intermediates, custom chemicals and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) 2) Custom and toll manufacturing Services 3) Chemistry RD services 4) Chemical process equipment 5) Green chemistry

Exhibiting companies at this year's InformexUSA showed off technologies, RD services and manufacturing support services to a range of industries. Approximately half (50%) of all exhibitors said their offerings were directed to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets while 30% said they focused primarily on specialty and industrial chemical markets. The final 20% said they serve a variety of markets, including the up-and-coming green chemistry industry.

The Informex management team, reaching out to those that wanted to see more green chemistry this year, sponsored the first-ever Green Chemistry pavilion at InformexUSA 2009. The Green Pavilion attracted a group of exhibitors whose sole focus is on sustainable chemicals. The rise in green chemical exhibitors comes at a time when more end-consumers request products that qualify as eco-friendly, sustainable technologies, wherein the consumer-driven request requires the application of novel technologies throughout the supply chain.

According to Jennifer Jessup, Event Director for InformexUSA, the InformexUSA attendee remains dedicated to the application of the world's best chemical technologies, wherever they come from. Fine chemicals, specialty chemicals, biotechnology and green chemicals -- whatever the technology -- participants of InformexUSA 2009 found what they wanted, she said. More than 90% of attendees surveyed said they found what they needed to move forward this year. The Informex management team remains committed to signing up exhibitors that offer attendees the very best in innovation, manufacturing, and novel chemical entities in an ever-changing marketplace. Matching up the right exhibitors with the right attendees is one of the main reasons why the InformexUSA exhibition is rated highly by both exhibitors and exhibitors in post-show surveys, she said.
