ITESM is installing the Connex500 in the Advanced Industrial Design Laboratory located in the CIEN park of ITESM Leon, the institution's new center for innovation and excellence. Starting in February 2010, the Connex500 will support research activities within its bachelor's degree programs in Engineering, Digital Arts and Industrial Design.
The Connex is unmatched in its ability to offer virtually unlimited opportunities for printing multiple materials, says Fabiola Cortes, Director of Industrial Design of Campus Leon Offering our students access to the best technology available in the market will contribute to our ability to cultivate and prime the next generation of design and product development innovators.
Launched in 2007, the Connex500 represents the first-ever system to allow 3D printing of several materials with different mechanical and physical properties simultaneously. Its patented PolyJet Matrix(TM) Technology jets materials in ultra-thin layers, immediately curing each layer with UV light - a process which yields models that closely emulate the look, feel and function of an exceptionally wide variety of end products. In addition, the system allows users to create composite materials that have pre-set combinations of mechanical properties, also a first for the industry. Today, the only other 3D printer offering these capabilities is Objet's Connex350(TM), unveiled in June 2009.
Latin America is a strategic market for our company for 2010 and beyond. We are extremely pleased seeing a leading academic institute as ITESM understand that the Connex brings unmatched added value to its organization. We are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation with ITESM to exploit the Connex capabilities, said Gilad Gans, Executive Vice President of Objet Geometries. We pride ourselves on leading innovation in the 3D printing industry, and are always thrilled to work with others that operate by these same, high-level standards.
About Instituto Tecnologico Y De Estudios Superiores De Monterrey (ITESM)
Tecnologico de Monterrey was founded in 1943 thanks to the vision of Eugenio Garza Sada and a group of businessmen who established a non-profit association called Ensenanza e Investigacion Superior, A. C. Tecnologico de Monterrey is a private, non-profit institution independent of and not related to any political party or religious group.
The work of the Tecnologico de Monterrey and of all of its campuses is supported by civil associations made up of a large group of outstanding leaders from all parts of the country, who are committed to quality in higher education.
Each year, the trustees of these civil associations meet to establish the goals which will guide the important decisions needed for the Tecnologico de Monterrey to achieve its mission of becoming an engine for the development of local communities and the country.
Tecnologico de Monterrey enjoys the support of the national community, which participates in the lotteries the institution organizes to expand the scholarship program and the investment in infrastructure.
To function as an educational institution, the Tecnologico de Monterrey operates under the statute of a Free University.
A multi-campus university system
Today, Tecnologico de Monterrey is a multi-campus university system with academic centers in different regions of the country.
The prestige that Tecnologico de Monterrey attained from the start, not only for its academic standards but also for the culture of entrepreneurship, hard work, efficiency and responsibility it seeks to instill in its students, has motivated alumni from different regions of the country to promote the establishment of Tecnologico de Monterrey campuses in their home cities.
This has given Tecnologico de Monterrey a perception of the different needs of each region and the capacity to prepare professionals who can meet them, without leaving their local environment. In addition, since Tecnologico de Monterrey is a nation-wide system, it has accepted the responsibility to respond to the important challenges facing the country.
Many Tecnologico de Monterrey alumni are directors of successful companies in Mexico and Latin America. There are also more and more graduates in important positions in government and public administration.
