'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, The Netherlands, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Quintiq, a leading provider of Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) solutions, today announced that Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL), one of the world's largest independent providers of factory to dealer logistics services for automakers and high & heavy rolling equipment manufacturers, has selected Quintiq to provide a planning solution to cover its global planning activities. The Quintiq solution will bring more transparency to WWL's supply chain, enable WWL to optimize vessel space according to available and forecasted cargo, cargo priority and revenue projections, and improve performance against contract commitments.

WWL operates more than 60 eco-friendly ships carrying up to 7,000 cars each and aims to give its customers a competitive edge by combining its logistics expertise and global reach with knowledge of local markets. Making optimum use of its cargo space, while remaining responsive to changes in worldwide markets and including fine-tuning in-transit supply, requires complex, multi-faceted and flexible planning. Currently, WWL utilizes a combination of spreadsheets, reports and in-house applications, with different regions and departments using different solutions. These solutions offer only limited integration between various planning modules and lack vital cross-module drill-down capabilities.

The Quintiq planning solution will replace this fragmented approach with a single global solution that can be used by all divisions involved in planning, including Voyage Management, Customer Care and Voyage Planning. Development of the solution began in January, with delivery expected around the middle of the year. Ab Ovo, a leading technology integrator, is the Quintiq implementation partner for the WWL solution.

The goal of the project is to create a comprehensive solution to support planning activities in the six-eight weeks before vessel loading. The Quintiq solution will provide WWL planners with overviews of relevant data, automated calculations, operational and historical reports and enable them to easily manage large amounts of data, use drill down analysis, and run scenarios to understand the impact of changes and disturbances. In addition, it is expected that the solution will simplify internal and external communication and facilitate operation and maintenance by creating better visibility into the planning process and supply chain.

"With the Quintiq solution, WWL will be able to provide logistics solutions for distributing cargoes with maximum reliability, quality and cost effectiveness, and with all the versatility we need to adapt to market changes," said Ragnvald Blindheim, CIO of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics. "We have every confidence that these enhanced logistics capabilities will help us improve our customers' business success and hence help build the worldwide WWL business."

Arjen Heeres, COO at Quintiq added: "WWL conducted a comprehensive selection process and we are proud that Quintiq came out on top. Winning this WWL project is a milestone for Quintiq and a stepping stone to becoming the leader in this market."
