HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, January 27 /PRNewswire/ --

Medusa Medical Technologies Inc. (Medusa) announced today that its flagship electronic patient care reporting software, the Siren ePCR Suite(TM), now has an interface with the Philips HeartStart MRx monitor/defibrillator. This integrated solution is available worldwide and enables an easier workflow for patient care and reporting in the pre-hospital setting.

Siren ePCR Suite(TM) is an industry-leading patient care reporting system. It enables paramedics to administer care while recording critical patient data that they transmit in real-time to receiving facilities. Siren ultimately improves data accuracy by downloading data from the HeartStart MRx directly into the tablet PC software, including ECG, vitals, treatments, and events. This system helps to support a decrease of discovery-to-treatment times by enabling the patient's care to be evaluated and treatment to be given en route to the hospital.

Good quality patient care requires good information, says Medusa VP Product Management, Craig Fraser. Siren integrates with other systems to help provide all healthcare professionals with a holistic view of the patient's care.

The Philips HeartStart MRx monitor/defibrillator combines diagnostic patient monitoring, defibrillation, and CPR measurement and feedback, into a lightweight and intuitive package designed for use by ALS responders and hospital clinicians. For electronic Patient Care Reporting (ePCR) software vendors, Philips offers the HeartStart Data Software Developer Kit (SDK), which allows data from Philips HeartStart monitor/defibrillators and AEDs to flow seamlessly into patient care reports.

We are very pleased to add the Medusa Siren application to the open systems portfolio of solutions available with the Philips HeartStart MRx, said Michael Miller, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cardiac Care, Philips Healthcare, Medusa is a leading international ePCR provider, and EMS services will benefit from improved patient information flow in an open and interoperable environment.

Using this new solution, pre-hospital care providers in the field will be able to monitor the patient's current condition, as well as access a patient care database that helps them make more informed decisions and deliver better care to patients. The data from the HeartStart MRx, including patient vitals and waveforms, are recorded in the ePCR, ensuring continuity of care from the ambulance to and through the hospital.

With tremendous success in North America, the UK and most recently in the Netherlands, Medusa continues to build strong relationships with a multitude of vendors throughout the world to help integrate Siren with other solutions. Philips is a major player in the healthcare industry and we are very happy to add the MRx interface to our suite of available defibrillator interfaces, said Scott Campbell, President and CEO of Medusa Medical Technologies.
