NTT Europe Online announced today it has been selected as the first managed hosting provider of Sun Microsystems' Solaris(TM) On Demand program in EMEA.
Solaris On Demand, a Software as a Service (SaaS) enablement program, helps Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) adopt and sell their services via the SaaS model, providing different phases of support through their SaaS development lifecycle.
In the early stages, the program offers free, 90-day access to a hosted proof-of-concept ISV Sandbox environment, enabling the ISV to establish market demand for their service. In deployment stage, the program's use of virtualisation technologies means that ISVs can deploy multiple instances of their application without costly and time consuming re-architecting. In the growth stage, as the ISV builds revenues, the program offers support around multi-tenanting the application, enabling the ISV to leverage the economies of scale, simplified deployment methods and streamlined support capabilities typically associated with Software as a Service.
EnergySys, the first ISV to join the program in the UK, is already exploiting the benefits of moving to a SaaS platform thanks to the combined expertise of Sun and NTT Europe Online.
EnergySys, which provides the ENERGYSYS product for allocation and reporting solutions for the oil and gas industry, is using NTT Europe Online's managed hosting service and Sun's technology to open up new business streams to deliver its software on-demand for the first time.
