ST. LOUIS, May 20, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Savvis, Inc. , a global leader in cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises, today announced it earned a prestigious 2010 Green Enterprise IT (GEIT) Award from the Uptime Institute, a noted independent think tank organization. GEIT Awards showcase organizations that are pioneering energy-efficiency improvements in their IT and data center operations.

Savvis was honored in the Facilities Innovation category for upgrading the HVAC system at its NJ2 Data Center in Weehawken, N.J. The phased project, which took four months with no impact to customers, included replacing and upgrading the controls of the 12-year-old chiller and pumping system.

The GEIT Award confirms Savvis' commitment to environmental stewardship, efficient power consumption and the reduction of our carbon footprint, said Michelle Hassemer, vice president of global operations for Savvis. The completion of the HVAC upgrade resulted in reduction of energy consumption, improved performance, reliability and redundancy and will produce an 18-month return on our investment.

Savvis embarked on a project that should have taken several years to execute inside a live data center. To ensure the project did not interrupt the live data center, Savvis developed methods of procedure for every aspect of the project, enabling the job to be finished under budget and ahead of schedule.

The GEIT Awards are the Uptime Institute's highest honor, and we are pleased to announce Savvis as the winner in Facilities Innovation, said W. Pitt Turner IV PE, executive director for the Uptime Institute. The company's innovative project made Savvis a well-deserved recipient of this award.

The Uptime Institute's 2010 Green Enterprise IT Awards were co-sponsored by Jones Lang LaSalle and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. Applications for the awards were evaluated by an independent panel of expert judges selected by Uptime Institute.
