- Islandcom brings Multi-Technology Service to Turks and Caicos Islands

- Visit Tecore Networks at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Stand 8C78

Tecore Networks, a leading provider of multi-technology mobile networks for emerging operators and rapid deployments, today announced that Islandcom Telecommunications Ltd., the only locally based mobile communications provider for the Turks and Caicos Islands, has deployed Tecore's patented solution supporting GSM and CDMA from a single converged platform. The all-IP network bridges the technology spectrum providing connectivity for voice, text messaging and packet data. The network will enable Islandcom to serve both the local residents as well as the global tourist population that frequents the islands. Tecore supplied a converged core platform, the GSM and CDMA radio access network, a customer care and billing system, and professional services.

The iCore Network Center delivers an industry first: a software-defined core network supporting MSC, VLR, HLR, SMSC, and prepaid operations across GSM and CDMA. The common set of object code implements both technology families from a single converged platform. The patented architecture applies the appropriate external technology method based on the subscriber type, while operating internally through common application processing. The end result is a core network which support operations with the most prevalent RF technologies, as well as allows simultaneous connectivity to GSM and CDMA roaming partners to support both inbound and outbound roaming.

The integrated nature of Tecore's core platform provides operators with an unparalleled capability to address diverse subscriber bases. Typical applications include cruise ships or resorts where subscribers use multiple technologies from their home networks. In Islandcom's case, the disparate and remote terrain of multiple islands presented additional challenges in network topology and backhaul. From the use of the all-IP RAN to the converged core supporting both prepaid and postpaid users, to billing and customer care, the flexibility of Tecore's solution was ideal to cover Islandcom's target subscribers.

"Islandcom is the only mobile telecommunications provider focused on the rapidly growing market in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Islandcom's launch will bring exciting new products and services as well as much needed competition to TCI's residents and international visitors," said Chris Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of Islandcom. "The market here is unique, and requires a local focus as well as world-class technology and services to ensure it is properly served. Tecore's suite of integrated products and professional services will be a crucial element of our success."

"Islandcom's vision and market situation required an innovative technical approach, and Tecore delivered," said Jay Salkini, President and CEO, Tecore Networks. "Islandcom's deployment is proof positive that a converged, feature-rich mobile network is available and affordable to operators today."

Tecore's senior management will showcase the company's mobile network solutions including Islandcom's deployment at Mobile World Congress, Stand 8C78, Barcelona from February 11 to 14.
