AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, February 4 /PRNewswire/ --

- Mediasite empowers staff with scalable reliability and easy integration

Integrated Systems Europe booth #11F48 -- Sonic Foundry, Inc. (Nasdaq: SOFO), the recognized market leader for rich media webcasting and knowledge management, today announced Utrecht University, the largest university in The Netherlands, has chosen Mediasite as the foundation of its long-range online learning plan.

The use of lecture capture is growing like wildfire on our campus. Some departments are considering recording all of their lectures, said Lex Hermans, multimedia department consultant at Utrecht University. The university rolled out its unique centralized course capture plan under the name LectureNet this semester. Academic departments including the humanities, arts, law, social studies and the affiliated academic hospital pay a set price per lecture or course to have trained multimedia department staff record their classes. The university is planning to record over 1,000 presentations in 2009.

Teachers who have used LectureNet a few times are really thinking about how they can use it in different ways. If you imagine everything you teach is online and available via Mediasite, you can do more with personal group meetings. I see tremendous opportunity to develop this, said Hermans.

After a year of piloting various webcasting applications, the university selected Mediasite by Sonic Foundry. Mediasite is a platform that can scale to meet the university's needs, said Tom Van Buren, CEO of Mediasite reseller Mediamission. In the long term when we're recording thousands of lectures in a year, we'll need what Mediasite offers, said Hermans.

We are honored to support Utrecht University, a globally renowned institution, in its efforts to integrate competitive educational technologies, said Rimas Buinevicius, chairman and CEO of Sonic Foundry. A long term commitment to our global channel partnership program has uniquely positioned Sonic Foundry to support top tier universities like Utrecht, as well as other existing customers in Europe and North America, that are rapidly expanding their footprint in high-growth markets.
