AMSTERDAM, September 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Online video sharing site Vimeo(R), an operating business of IAC , today announced the shortlist of videos from its first international Vimeo Awards at a satellite event during the IBC Conference.

The shortlist (http://www.vimeo.com/awards/shortlist) represents not only some of the most creative and innovative video productions online, but anywhere. The 180-video shortlist includes entries from 24 different countries around the world, including: Argentina, Austria, Australia, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Germany, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Iran, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and the United States.

A select worldwide group of curators, film festival directors, and Vimeo staff screened more than 6,500 entries to determine the top 20 videos in each of nine categories of the competition. The international panel of distinguished judges (http://www.vimeo.com/awards/judges) including M.I.A., Ted Hope, David Lynch, and Roman Coppola, to name a few, are currently screening the shortlist for their respective categories to determine the finalists.

Vimeo is the filmmaker's home on the internet and the talent on display from around the world is humbling, said Rian Johnson, judge for the narrative category. The strongest line-up of shorts I've seen at any festival.

Vimeo will announce the top 5 finalists on Sept. 21, 2010. However, the site will reveal the winners in New York during its two-day Festival (http://www.vimeo.com/awards/festival), complete with workshops, seminars, panel discussions and screenings, and the Vimeo Awards presentation on Saturday evening, October 9th.

We were all extremely impressed with the quality of submissions to our first awards competition, said Blake Whitman, Vimeo's Director of Community and Product and co-director of the Vimeo Festival + Awards. While we were able to provide category judges with a shortlist of finalists, we don't envy the task that awaits them. I think the Vimeo Awards will clarify once-and-for-all that the Internet has truly become the vehicle of choice for producing and sharing amazing film and video productions.

The full shortlist of videos for each category is available at http://www.vimeoawards.com/shortlist.
