About Alexander

My key research interest is in fluid dynamics with respect to stress-strain field changes associated with diverse tectonic and non-tectonic processes such as recent crustal movements, barometrical, tidal, and artificial seismic action.

For many years I conducted field observations of piezometric water level in wells and subsoil gases in selected sites in Pripyat Trough (Belarus) that is an aseismic and at the same time tectonically active structure (a paleorift and oil-gas prone basin).

I developed a methodology of hydrogeodynamical observations which enabled me to discover appreciable impact of aseismic recent deformations in deep fault zones on variations of dynamic parameters of groundwater and subsoil gases (helium, hydrogen, and radon) over time.

In my previous research, I had a working partnership with scientists of United Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, where my reserch interests were enunciated and evolved. I enjoy doing both field geology and lab work. A considerable portion of my work consists of time series computer processing and modeling. But when it is summer it is time for me to leave for geological trips.

I have had a terrific time leading my students in eight geological trips through the Crimea Mountains and studying a wide scope of rocks, geological processes and phenomena such as weathering, karst, caves, landslides, mud volcanoes, etc.
