I've been a professional public school educator for the last three decades, plus. Though I've taught all grades K-12 at one time or another, nearly all my teaching has been with middle schoolers. Thus, I have picked up a number of habits which seem perfectly normal to me but my wife refers to as "totally 8th grade." More importantly, I've been forced to think, rethink and reduce complicated topics to their core tenets in order to translate scientific concepts for adolescents whose reading skills have not been so great. No, their textbooks certainly did not accomplish this for me. Thinking about science has become my default mode in life.
