About Chris I am not likely to be actually blogging here; I signed up in order to have a convenient ID for commenting at some of the other columns here. I am a regular reader! (Thank you, RSS.) I have a long standing interest in areas of science where for one reason or another there is a significant disconnect between popular perception of the issues and questions, and where there is an active community of people who are with some success pushing ideas with little or no real scientific credibility. This includes topics like evolution, climate science, cosmology, medicine, and others. My own professional background, however, is in discrete mathematics, with a PhD in formal local and automata theory. I have been active at the talkorigins website, and various internet forums such as physicsforums, where I am currently one of the science advisors, writing as "sylas". My own personal blog is Duae Quartunciae. I am have recently (May 2010) started up a new bulletin board specifically for looking climate science, with a focus on what working scientists are actually doing and publishing.
