About Dr. Charles Is everyone who writes to this column aware that these phenomenon have been occurring for the last 200 million + years? I am discussing the so called "tornadoes" that occurred over China recently. It is not unusual for this to occur in the distant Far East, and "dust devils" have occurred numerous times around the world. It seems that as humans we are digging at everything that occurs around the world continuously that seems to be "new" to us. Dust devils, as they are called, have been occurring in many parts of the world since the beginning of time, and are simply the result of hot and cold air combining that create these phenomenon. Here in the central part of the United States, these are a common occurrance that can be a small wind turbulence that sometimes occur in the vast fields of crops we have here. Admittedly, these can get quite large, and can cause a large amount of damage in the areas they occur. But to tag them as a destructive tornadoes whose force is quite turbulent is going a bit too far. If we didn't have the world-wide access to the latest news that we have today, no one would even know they occurred. Dust storms are very common in the Far East and should be simply described as a normal activity that occur every Spring. My advice to those who are affected by these windstorms is to simply stay inside. If it is necessary to go out, cover your face, and airways, to be certain as to not breathe the residuals created by these storms. As a graduate of the university of Ashford, and a student who has studied extensively about Earth Science, I suggest that those of you who are not experts in this field to do some personal research on this subject. There are many other scientific conditions around the globe that are much more important to the survival of our civilization. Get some information on Tectonic Plate activity, sun flares, and other factors that create these and other phenomenon. I get the sense that some of you are trying to tie this in with global warming, which is also a farce. The warmth of the Earth is controlled by these flares, not by carbon emissions or any other seeming bi-product of man. My suggestion to everyone who feels that these occur because of the poor stewardship of our citizens is to shut the hell up; you do not know the facts and are trying to blame these occurrences on something made up by certain entities in this world to scare good, honest people who don't know any different. Please remember this: Peace in the world is not profitable; the best way to control the populace is fear-plain and simple. So instead of worrying about things that have been occurring over the last 200+ million years, simply accept them as they occur, and spend your valuable time on helping those in the world who are being neglected, such as those in Ethiopia and other poor countries around the world and stop spending your money on these common occurrences that happen consistently around the world. I think you would feel much better knowing you have made a difference in the lives of those who need us. Hunger, lack of clean water, shelter, and clothing are but a few that fall under this category. You will feel better; I guarantee it. God does not care about these common phenomenon, but he does care about the people he has created to live in these remote areas, and your reward in Heaven will be much greater! Get the facts: you will feel much less afraid of tomorrow and feel better about the help you CAN give to those who need it! Try praying...you will feel better. Dr. C. Ulbricht-Geologist
