About Joanne I am a serious amateur. Practical Nurse by trade and education. An avid reader since very early childhood with an incredible thirst for the kind of scientific knowledge that goes beyond pop culture, I found this site because of a coursera course I took. Not much else to tell. I am here to read, ask pertinent questions occasionally, but mostly to read and learn and write my own response. I think of it as sort of a foriegn correspondents view of the world of real science.
