About John I studied chemistry and then became a teacher of science and mathematics. After 15 years of this I got a bit fed up with the prevailing UK education system's ideology, which was based on the mantra of chasing exam grades at whatever cost, instead of awakening children's love of the knowledge and experiences embodied by their school subjects. So for the past 8 years I have provided professional development for teachers. Most of this involves trying to get them to make science lessons more enjoyable, engaging and meaningful, while at the same time improving their own subject knowledge and professional skills.
