About Mohamed S. Dr Aly-Hassan completed his doctorate in aerospace structures and materials entitled “Notch Insensitivity and Toughening Mechanisms of Carbon/Carbon Composites” at Tokyo Metropolitan University in cooperation with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in 2003. After finishing his JSPS post doctorate fellowship entitled “Reusable Thermal Protection Systems made of Ceramic Matrix Composites for Re-entry Space Vehicles” at JAXA, he joined the Venture Laboratory at Kyoto Institute of Technology in 2007, where he directed his research to multifunctional, hybrid, green, polymeric composites and nanocomposites. This led to the development of some novel composites with innovative properties and new applications with connection to different industries. Dr. Aly-Hassan is now serving as an Associate Professor at Department of Advanced Fibro-Science, Kyoto Institute of Technology. Concurrently, Dr. Aly-Hassan is serving as president at Hassan Associates Co., Ltd. Japan since 2008. Dr. Aly-Hassan has more than 115 published papers in several international journals and proceedings of international conferences. Dr. Aly-Hassan also was invited to address about 36 of presentations (plenary, keynotes, invited talks and lectures) in several international conferences, forums and universities over the world. Dr. Aly-Hassan was honored with some domestic and international awards among them; the 1st Runner-Up, JEC Composites Innovation Award (Category: Process), JEC Asia Composites Show 2009, Singapore. Recently, Dr. Aly-Hassan was awarded an Honorary Professorship in July 2010 by Misr University for Science and Technology, Egypt in recognition of his outstanding research and significant contribution to composites and nanotechnology fields.
