About Scott
I received my Ph.D. in genetics from UC Davis. There I studied the interaction between population differentiation and the molecular evolution of DNA. From UC Davis I went to a post doc at UC Santa Cruz, which was actually an appointment at NOAA's Southwest Fisheries Science Center. I left NOAA for my current geneticist position in the Molecular Genetics Laboratory at Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
While my primary research interests are concerned with how biological and evolutionary forces shape genetic diversity, an important aspect of my work is utilizing genetic information to support conservation efforts. Applying the insights obtained from genetic research to the enhancement of imperiled species is an effective way to provide science relevant to society and to communicate the importance of supporting scientific inquiry.
