About Steve
I graduated with a B.S. cum laude in Pharmacy from Butler University, after which I earned a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Vanderbilt University in the laboratory of Michael Tamkun. As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Iowa in the laboratory of Kevin Campbell, I identified the alpha-sarcoglycan gene and identified mutations that cause the LGMD2D form of muscular dystrophy. In 1995 I joined the Upjohn Company, which soon became part of Pharmacia and, later, Pfizer. During the next 12 years, I applied multiple technologies to identify and validate new molecular targets for treatment of airway inflammation (1995-1997), pain and CNS diseases (1998-2003), and cardiovascular diseases (2003-2007), and moved targets through early project stages through lead development. Currently, as a scientist within Pfizer's Indications Discovery Unit, I strive to discover novel uses for compounds in Pfizer’s development portfolio to treat CNS diseases including psychosis and Alzheimer's disease.
