About Tom How I spend my days (the reason I like my job): Microscopist and Geologist specializing in scientific imaging. Current position (the reason they pay me): Clinical Professor in Geological Sciences and Director of the Electron Microscopy Center at the University of Idaho.

Education: Undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia and PhD from the University of Maryland-College Park. Professional Interests: Novel applications of microscopy to interesting stuff from around the scientific disciplines. I consult on Forensic Science applications of Electron Microscopy. Fascinated by the history of the technology of scientific observation from the magnifying glass to Synchrotron Light Sources to deep-space planetary probes. I also teach widely on Introductory Geology, Forensic Science, and Microscopy. Personal Stuff: Endurance athlete: when I'm not running my Lab I run Marathons/Ultramarathons, Triathlons, and Open Water Marathon Swims.
