We already know Chat GPT and the tech behind it can replace comedy acts. Right now a new ongoing stream of “news” totally made up news like stories, is being powered by Chat GPT and animated using the Unreal video game engine. Unreal engine a 3D game engine for which the source is available on Github. It is only a matter of time before realistic enough, GPT powered commentary is added to news feeds. "News" here is in scare quotes because it's not like reading a RSS feed and applying some Chat GPT driven reaction to it. Right now it uses GPT to create news items based on things given to it through twitch chat. That said the graphics generation via Unreal engine is of interest as the result is far better graphics. This proves the concept of using a game engine with these technologies to make very realistic looking presentations.

This is no where near as entertaining as "Nothing Forever" was. There is something about a computer program being able to say things that are funny which was really compelling. A computer voice reading out information could be done without any form of AI or language modeling etc. Especially since the information is just made up at this point. Think what this will be once it is done by a company like Microsoft or Google. Imagine Google news having a 24 hour AI generated "TV news" feed. Perhaps with AI generated commentary on the news that could suit the taste of a given user based on their preferred news sources.

The implications of factual content being distributed or interpreted via an AI are fascinating. Especially given how those who create it could bias it in various subtle and powerful ways. What the AI is doing here is pretty basic.

However, the graphics are far better since they use a game engine to generate them. This allows for a MUCH more real looking presentation but not anything one would confuse with reality. It's not quite a Deep Fake, it's also not like, oh, seeing a Character in Night City, Nor Cal, NUSA reading the news. Considering just a few weeks ago Chat GPT seemed like this strange questionable novelty news ... something only certain nerds cared about and now Microsoft has a version of it that can cite reliable sources...the sky is the limit.

Just for fun I asked Chat GPT to re-write the last section of this.

This isn't as entertaining as 'Nothing Forever' was. The idea of a computer program delivering funny lines was really intriguing. In the future, it could be possible for a computer voice to read information without the need for AI or language modeling. Just imagine if a company like Microsoft or Google had an AI-generated 24-hour news feed, complete with user-specific commentary based on their preferred news sources.

The idea of factual content being distributed or interpreted through AI is fascinating and raises questions about bias and manipulation. Currently, the AI used here is fairly basic. However, the graphics have greatly improved with the use of a game engine, resulting in a more realistic presentation, though still not quite reaching the level of a deep fake.

Considering that just a few weeks ago, chat GPT was a novelty only a few people cared about, and now Microsoft has a version that can cite reliable sources, the potential is limitless. Who knows, in the near future we may see a GPT-powered TV show that competes with Hollywood

While not directly related to this specific story. The Youtube creator Thunderf00t has a great take on the idea of AI creating this type of content. The fact that such AI can create content all the time even if it misses most of the time it only needs to hit a few times. Victory by sheer brute force.
