- 2nd International Symposium

- Presentation of the results of the market study on "Biomanufacturing in 2008, improvement of the French attractiveness for Biomanufacturing"

- Launching of the Biomanufacturing Center at Genopole

The 2nd International Symposium on Biomanufacturing, a EuroBiO 2008 satellite event, will take place on October 6 at the Genocenter in Evry. This year's theme is "Productivity and Operational Excellence in Biomanufacturing". The results of the market study on "Biomanufacturing in 2008, improvement of the French attractiveness for Biomanufacturing", commissioned by LEEM (French Pharmaceutical Companies Association) and Genopole, will be presented during the Symposium. The Biomanufacturing Center of Therapeutic Proteins at Genopole will be launched the same day. It is the largest in France and one of the 10 leading centers in Europe.

International Symposium on "Productivity and Operational Excellence in Biomanufacturing"

The 250 participants of the first Symposium, held in 2006, on "New perspectives in GMP Biomanufacturing" felt it was a great success. The Symposium taking place on October 6, a EuroBiO 2008 satellite event, will bring together several subject matter experts. The main theme of their presentations will concern the cost reduction of biomolecule production . For instance, it is imperative to reduce the costs of monoclonal antibody based treatments, which represent one of the most promising solutions for fighting cancer, so that they can become more accessible to patients. A preliminary session will be dedicated to actions that could potentially improve biomanufacturing performance: actions on cloning conditions, cell culture, purification, flow optimization, transverse and related processes, etc. Three other topics will also be covered: innovative technologies, developments in GMP regulations, and green and white biotechnologies. "Biomanufacturing in 2008, improvement of the French attractiveness for Biomanufacturing"

The market study on "Biomanufacturing in 2008, improvement of the French attractiveness for Biomanufacturing" will present the growth perspectives of the global biopharmaceutical market, and will establish an inventory by therapeutic category of biomolecules used in clinical development. It will also assess the setting up of biomanufacturing plants in Europe and the rest of the world, and will list the criteria for installing these plants by order of importance. Lastly, it will make recommendations for developing France's attractiveness for international investments in the biomanufacturing of commercial industrial batches.

The major Biomanufacturing Center in France, and one of the 10 leading centers in Europe

The second Symposium, taking place on October 6, will see the launching of the Center for the Biomanufacturing at Genopole of Therapeutic Proteins. It will become operational at the end of 2008. In addition to this center, 7 other projects intrinsic to biomanufacturing are underway, or are being studied on the bioparc, particularly a GMP viral vector production unit and an enzymes and biocatalysis center.
