About Michael
As a fledgling Chemical Engineer I spent a couple of summers as an Intern at Lawrence Livermore Laboratories. After earning an MS from Berkeley I made the horrible mistake of going to work for a consulting company instead of taking advantage of a free ride to earn a PhD. The consulting did provide a wealth of learning in the area of alternative energy production (oil shale, coal gasification, wind, ocean wave, and solar). Although most of the research papers I wrote were based on oil shale, I did put out a few more economic pieces about coal and ocean wave energy. Later I worked for firms needing discrete simulations of assembly lines or chemical mixing.
The most interesting instances involved resolving a problem heating and pressing aluminum sheets from ingots and figuring out how to take a picture of two rockets intercepting long before GPS was available!
I really enjoy learning how and why "things" work. Beyond politics, beyond socio-economics factors, and beyond popular press, I want to understand and positively impact the means by which we preserve our world and our species?
