A Facebook friend opined that Los Angeles protesters could “turn LA into another Portland.” I expand for you my rejoinder to his post:
No, this is much more about Trump exercising power, than about undocumenteds in LA (an issue which, to be real, didn’t bother people very much until 47 made it a scare plank in his platform.) In the view of The Atlantic, “For Trump, this is a dress rehearsal.”
Are the immigrants illegal? Sure, in many cases, but note that 47 targeted urban LA, not the farm regions! (You can guess why.) Did the demonstrators illegally interfere with officers’ lawful action? Rephrase that one as “did they legally interfere with officers’ almost certainly unconstitutional action?”
Now let’s talk about ICE, which has:
· deported (reportedly) US citizens,
· separated families,
· abducted children who need intensive medical care,
· entered premises without warrant,
• violated habeas corpus,
· scooped up people who were legitimately awaiting court decisions on their residency,
· refrained from putting badges or name tags on officers (who refuse to identify themselves on request), and
· through “administrative error,” misidentified and sent the wrong people to Salvadoran jails.
It’s perfectly clear that ICE are the domestic terrorists.
If the FBI weren’t in the Felon-in-Chief’s pocket, these ICE guys would be arrested and prosecuted for kidnapping. I hope 47’s cheap rhetorical tricks won’t persuade you otherwise.
Everyone knows 47 screwed up the water issue in California. That embarrassed him and worsened his grudge against “liberal California.” Any damage the protesters do to So.Cal. will be minimal compared to what 47 will wreak on the region via ICE, the national guard, and the military.
Conservatives brag that they take their 2nd Amendment rights seriously, keeping guns to defend against government outrages. Many consider this view virtuous. In the present incident, protesters had no guns. Why pile blame on them? Reserve your indignance for the administration in Washington and for the ICE officers who did not stop to wonder what their mothers would think of what they were doing.
