Calgary will play host for the second year to the Oil Sands and Heavy Oil Technologies Conference & Exhibition, July 15-17 at the Calgary, TELUS Convention Centre. The inaugural show, held in July 2007 in Calgary, drew over 880 oil sands executives and senior personnel to a two day conference along with over fifty exhibitors.

Len Webber, Parliamentary Assistant of Energy, Alberta, will address the second annual Oil Sands and Heavy Oil Technologies Conference & Exhibition July 16 at the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre. He will speak on the second day of the conference along with Eddy Isaacs, Director of the Alberta Energy Research Institute (AERI). Joining Webber and Isaacs will be Shannon Flint, Director of Strategic Policy and Innovation with the Oil Sands Environmental Management Division in Alberta Environment.

Mr. Len Webber will discuss Energy in Alberta and how Canadians must work toward a sustainable future given the importance and opportunities present in the burgeoning oil sands industry.

The second keynote session speaker Mr. Eddy Isaacs, Ph.D. will discuss oil sands in a carbon constrained world, and the technologies associated with the industry as well as offer potential solutions for problems facing producers.

Rounding out the keynote session will be Ms. Shannon Flint, Director of Strategic Policy and Innovation with the Oil Sands Environmental Management Division in Alberta Environment. Flint will discuss various trends in Alberta's environmental policy as it relates to the oil sands.

Many of Canada's leading oil sands and heavy oil experts will be on hand to discuss Alberta's multi-faceted industry. The conference will begin on the afternoon of July 15 with an opening session at which three industry experts are scheduled to speak. Mr. Thomas Wise, Vice President of Purvin & Gertz, an engineering consulting firm with offices in Calgary, will discuss the evolving oil sands and synthetic crude oil markets.

During his career Wise has provided expert testimony on the oil sands industry in Canada and the US and manages Purvin & Gertz's ongoing service Crude Oil and the Oil Sands Market Outlook.

Also speaking on Tuesday afternoon is Robert Fryklund, Vice President of Global E&P Critical Analysis for IHS who will discuss searching for the value in oil sands. Jim Hyne, from HYJAY Research and Development will round out the opening session on Tuesday with his speech on Conventional Oil & Oil Sands - The Need for Different Operational Infrastructure.

The conference will wrap-up with a live, closing session webcast at which members of advisory board, conference attendees, and an internet audience will discuss some of the vital socioeconomic and environmental questions confronted by the oil sands industry.

A pre-conference workshop entitled An Introduction to Oil Sands and Heavy Oil Industry, Technology and Economics Workshop will be given by Len Flint - LENEF Consulting. Flint will cover the basics about the oil sands industry such as its terminology and relative importance to Alberta.
