- Kofi Annan, Mary Robinson and Desmond Tutu to Participate in Debate and QA at www.ghf-ge.org

The Global Humanitarian Forum will be broadcasting live a panel discussion on Climate Justice hosted by the Global Humanitarian Forum in collaboration with the University of Pretoria.

The countries most vulnerable are least able to protect themselves. They also contribute least to the global emissions of greenhouse gases. Without action they will pay a high price for the actions of others, says Kofi Annan.

Date: 28 February 2009 Time: 14:00 - 15:30 GMT + 2 Venue: University of Pretoria, Hatfield Campus, Pretoria And via Web at www.ghf-ge.org Panel Participants: Kofi Annan (via video link) Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu Mary Robinson Wangari Maathai (video message) Rajendra Pachauri (video message)

The discussion will explore the ethical foundations of Climate Justice and will be covered by a full range of international media. The debate will be followed by a Question Answer session between students, faculty and the panel of experts addressing the issue of the human impact of climate change. The debate will be moderated by Nisha Pillai, news anchor for BBC World followed by a press conference with the media.

Climate justice is realized when polluters take responsibility for the negative consequences of their pollution, acting to end or minimize and compensate for any harm. The 50 least developed countries are responsible for less than 1% of global emissions. Conversely, the United States, Europe, Japan, China, India and Russia account for over three quarters of emissions.

The Global Humanitarian Forum is an international organisation founded in 2007 together with the Swiss government and is led by Kofi Annan. An independent and impartial international organization, the Forum is working to build a stronger global community for overcoming humanitarian challenges, hence its vision: A world where the full potential of the global society is harnessed for eradicating human suffering.
