ARNHEM, The Netherlands, December 10 /PRNewswire/ -- KEMA (http://www.kema.com/cn/Default.aspx) is determined to significantly expand its activities in China and other parts of the Asia Pacific region. In line with its strategy, KEMA will further strengthen the core activities across the entire energy value chain, namely business and technical consultancy, measurements, calibration, inspections and testing and certification of medium-, high- and ultra high-voltage energy equipment. In China, KEMA has already been working for a large number of utilities, network companies, governmental organizations and manufacturers of energy equipment for many years now.

Chinese expansion part of global growth strategy

The expansion plans of KEMA in China and other parts of the Asia Pacific region like Australia and New Zealand are part of a global growth strategy. The growth will be partly financed with the proceeds of the earlier divestment of the low voltage and medical testing and certification activities, and realized autonomously, through greenfields start-ups and acquisitions. In May 2009, KEMA opened a new office in Beijing in addition to its office in Shanghai, where the medium-, high- and ultra high-voltage testing and certification business is located. In the beginning of 2010, the Shanghai office will be expanded with local inspection services.

Wide range of projects

KEMA's commitment to China is reflected by the many projects in the country in which it is involved. These vary from smart grid related projects such as Quality Assurance Quality Control services of ultra high-voltage transmission equipment, protocol testing, to renewable consultancy services such as wind energy, biomass and waste. In addition, KEMA is also involved in projects, related to clean fossil power such as coal blending and power plant performance improvement, as well as sustainability related services such as energy efficiency improvement in industrial environment, sustainable building and emission reduction and control. Apart from this, KEMA has already for many years a strong position in China as it comes to the testing and certification of medium-, high- and ultra high-voltage energy equipment. The company is world market leader in high power testing and, globally, a prominent player in high-voltage testing and certification.

Also in China broader product portfolio

Recent acquisitions, such as the RD and consultancy activities of Gasunie, one of the largest gas transport companies in Europe, and ELBAS, a leading consultancy and engineering firm for electrical railway power supply systems, will also have their impact on KEMA's Chinese and Asia Pacific strategy. Also in China and Asia Pacific, KEMA will become a full scope service provider to the gas and rail industry.
