CAMBRIDGE, England, March 5, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Napp Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited, based in Cambridge, has risen to position 5 in the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies to Work For and remains the highest ranked pharmaceutical company in the UK. This success comes only a few weeks after the company became one of only 50 companies in the UK to be awarded 3 stars by Best Companies through their accreditation scheme. Both the Sunday Times Top 100 and the Best Companies accreditation scheme recognise excellence in employee engagement, and both are derived from the results of the Best Companies survey.

This is the fourth year that Napp has entered the awards, but despite the competition becoming tougher each time, with 347 organisations applying for inclusion in the mid-size companies list this year, Napp has remained consistently successful. Number 5 is Napp's highest ranking to date, having appeared 9th, 12th and 11th, respectively, over the previous 3 years.

Napp uses the Best Companies survey results each year to continue to evolve their culture, which puts people at the heart of the organisation, aiming to support each individual to perform at their best and take personal responsibility for the success of the business. Napp scored highly in all areas assessed by the survey, particularly in the areas of 'my company', 'my team', 'fair deal' and 'leadership'. Headline results include:

- 89% of employees said that they were excited about where the organisation was going - 89% said that they felt the organisation was run on strong values and principles - 90% felt that they could make a valuable contribution to the success of the organisation. - 89% felt that Napp makes a positive difference to the world we live in - 85% said that they felt their job was good for their own personal growth

Antony Mattessich, MD, said, An engaged and motivated workforce that is willing to give their very best for their company is a good thing for any organisation, but is particularly advantageous for a pharmaceutical company because the marketplace is becoming increasingly complex and competitive. We believe that our strong commitment to fully engaging employees is key to our ongoing prosperity in such an environment. Napp is an exciting place to be, full of energised, successful people who take personal responsibility for our success. Our open culture truly gives them the freedom to generate ideas and challenge existing strategies and tactics to give the best possible outcomes for us, the NHS and patients.

About Best Companies and the Sunday Times Top 100

Both the Sunday Times Top 100 and the star accreditation scheme are run by Best Companies, the workplace engagement specialists. http://www.bestcompanies.co.uk/

There are three Sunday Times lists: - The 100 Best Small Companies to work for - The 100 Best Medium-sized Companies to work for - The 20 best large companies to work for.

Napp appears in the medium-sized companies' list. The lists have been published once a year for the last 8 years.

Best Companies set up the star accreditation scheme in 2006 to recognise excellence in the workplace. Accreditation is focused on workplace engagement as an integral part of a company's success and growth. A Best Companies Index (BCI) score is awarded to each organisation that completes the accreditation process. Each BCI is derived from the organisation's employee responses to the accreditation survey. The BCI then defines whether an organisation has achieved 'Star Status'. Companies with one star are rated as first class, two stars as outstanding and three stars as extraordinary. The stars are awarded on the basis of employees' responses to a selection of the questions included in the survey for the Sunday Times Top 100.
