MAARSSEN, Netherlands, February 19 /PRNewswire/ --

A BioPharma Pavilion at CPhI Japan and a Manufacturing Machinery Zone within P-MEC Japan will be among the new features at the 2009 staging of Japan's leading pharma services events by UBM International Media. The conference programme has also been significantly expanded.

The exhibitions -- completed by the contract services event ICSE Japan -- will be held on 21 - 23 April at Tokyo's Big Sight. Over 400 companies, approximately half from overseas, will exhibit at the events. Attendance is expected to be well over 14,000.

The three exhibitions offer visitors the full spectrum of the industry: ingredients, contract services and machinery/equipment with the convenience of networking and business opportunities in a single location.

2009 will mark the fifth anniversary of ICSE Japan and the return of P-MEC Japan, following its successful 2008 debut. CPhI Japan was first held in 2002 -- while the CPhI brand marks the 20th anniversary in 2009 of its first ever exhibition in Europe.

Underlining the added value of the Tokyo events will be the familiar and wide-ranging programme of keynote, seminar and conference sessions, featuring speakers from government, academia and industry. In a notable increase over 2008, the total programme features more than 130 separate sessions. The schedule will be supported by exhibitor presentation workshops.

Looking ahead to the 2009 exhibitions, Group Director for Pharma Ingredients events Eliane van Doorn commented: Our combined events in Japan reflect the increased convergence between pharma and biotech business models and the continuing growth of contract services beyond APIs and across the wider pharma space -- including product development and clinical trials. These trends have also been clear in the profiles of our other global events -- including the 2008 debuts of CPhI and P-MEC in South America.

A significant contribution to the events is made by Government departments and industry organisations. These include the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the Ministry of Economy, Trade Industry and 15 trade associations and organisations.

CPhI Japan will also reflect the current extension of CPhI, via digital platforms, into a 24/7/365 information brand alongside the annual events, as announced at CPhI Worldwide, in Frankfurt.
