CAPE TOWN, South Africa, May 4 /PRNewswire/ --

A majority of African countries is currently experiencing acute power shortages. This is leading to rolling blackouts and load shedding.

Only 23 per cent of the region has access to electricity. The major problem is the lack of adequate electricity generation capacities and insufficient electricity grids.

African governments have however embarked on substantial investment towards building additional new electricity supply capacities, says Frost Sullivan energy industry analyst Moses Duma. Approximately 80,000MW of new electricity generation capacity is expected to come online by 2030.

To offer senior decision makers a comprehensive overview of key developments in the sub-Saharan electricity sector, the Energy Power Systems Group at Frost Sullivan will be hosting an online analyst briefing on Tuesday 12 May 2009 at 2:00 pm BST/ 3:00 pm CAT.

Highlights of the briefing will include a succinct analysis of the nature of the current power crisis in sub-Saharan Africa, a comparison of the installed generation capacity and demand in the region's top 7 utilities, a detailed analysis of the new-build programs and strategies being followed to create more reliable power systems. The presentation will also highlight key challenges hampering utilities' growth plans and the opportunities available for perceptive investors and equipment suppliers to partner with key utilities in Africa.

The discussion will benefit CEOs, managing directors, private project developers, finance providers, equipment suppliers and other perceptive power sector investors by accurately discussing future opportunities and key market entry strategies
