OTTAWA, Canada, September 22 /PRNewswire/ --

- Bridgewater Solution to Support Mobile WiMAX Services in 2 Russian Cities

Bridgewater Systems (TSX: BWC) today announced that it is providing Scartel LLC, with a WiMAX service control solution to support advanced IP services being offered over a Mobile WiMAX network in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Scartel will deliver mobile Internet access with speeds of up to 10 MB per second under the brand name Yota. By the end of 2008, Scartel plans to ensure full coverage of these cities and some adjacent areas in the region, with a total population of more than 20 million.

The Bridgewater service control solution will enable Scartel to support high performance subscriber management functions such as authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) services, and provide a common platform to accelerate the launch of data services over their WiMAX network.

"We selected Bridgewater Systems because they provide a vendor-neutral solution that integrates easily with our existing WiMAX IP infrastructure," said Dennis Sverdlov, chief executive officer of Scartel. "They also bring extensive experience in Mobile WiMAX from their numerous engagements with major service providers and broad interoperability with a range of network equipment vendor types."

Bridgewater is providing Scartel with an advanced WiMAX service control solution that includes a common subscriber data management solution to enable a unified view of subscribers, and accelerate time to market for new services. The solution features a powerful policy and profile engine that allows Scartel to control and manage subscriber access to advanced and differentiated services on a per-subscriber basis. Compliant with the WiMAX Forum's NWG Stage 3 specification, the Bridgewater(TM) AAA Service Controller provides extensive support for Mobile WiMAX often not available in legacy AAA servers, such as support for multiple EAP methods, dual RADIUS/DIAMETER protocol support, device and subscriber authentication, as well as mobile IP support. The solution also offers open extensible interfaces, which simplifies integration and enables seamless collaboration with other systems within Scartel's network environment.

"Russia is the leading WiMAX market in Europe and Scartel is in a unique position as it already holds a large number of WiMAX licenses across Russia and is the first operator in the region to go to market with a Mobile WiMAX solution," commented Ihsen Fekih, EMEA managing director for Bridgewater Systems. "The deployment will enable strong competitive advantage, providing Scartel with the ability to accelerate and de-risk WiMAX service introduction, and to differentiate, with innovative service models such as over-the-air provisioning and casual access."

Bridgewater Systems solutions have been selected by more than ten WiMAX service providers across the globe, including Sprint's new nationwide XOHM WiMAX Network.
