Five days are left to apply to a 2-year research position at INFN-Padova, to work in the context of the EIC-Pathfinder-2025 winning project "PHINDER" on the simulation of the apparatus.
PHINDER (Picosecond-scale Photonic Heterogeneous Integrated Neuromorphic Detector) is a consortium of seven research institutes led by Lulea Technology University (Sweden), including Universidad de Oviedo, Eindhoven University, Universidad de Cantabria, Lund University, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, and INFN-Padova.
PHINDER will enable picosecond-scale, high throughput, optical event detection and analysis by fabricating and demonstrating a dynamic photonic sensor array with on-chip neuromorphic intelligence, by advancing the state of the art in optoelectronic algorithm-hardware co-design. This will unlock a disruptive paradigm shift in high-resolution sensing and imaging.
For the work on simulation and machine learning in PHINDER, we are searching for a Master graduate in scientific disciplines (physics, astronomy, mathematics, engineering, computer science, statistics) with research experience in machine learning and familiarity with python/pytorch programming.
The successful applicant would be based in Padova, Italy and take part in the research group that develops the model of the prototype, that has applications in particle physics, proton beam therapy, and adaptive chemical processing monitoring.
The two-year position is paid at a competitive salary level for Italian standards, and it does not require the possession of a PhD title, although the position is formally a Post-doctoral research grant. Interested candidates should apply through this link ON or BEFORE MAY 30th. For more information you are also welcome to contact me directly via email (tommaso.dorigo at gmail). The call is also described in this pdf here, while the Euraxcess posting unwittingly sends applicants to the main page - you can browse that text but be advised that finding your way to the call from there is not easy. Again, email me if you have trouble!
