Indeed, advertisement will have to be robust for the journal to start with the right foot. The publishing world has become a frightening jungle nowadays, and making it is very difficult. But this journal has distinct connotations that place it in a very interesting spot.
While AI is a recent development, the studies of human cognitive processes and the understanding of how our brain really works have been an effort of psychologists and neuroscientists for more than a hundred years. AI can today be the key to unlock the most well-kept secrets of our brain's functioning, in two different ways: by allowing us to zoom into the physical mechanisms at the basis of thought processes, decrypting FMRI signals and other information we can harvest from neuronal activity; and by offering an in-silico analogue to rational thinking, which opens up a new dimension to our investigations of cognition, self-consciousness, and perception.
Because of the above, we are today at a very interesting juncture. On one side, we are able to take precise snapshots of thought formation inside our brain; on the other, we are able to explore the broader context of what intelligent thought really is and what are the boundaries of its necessary substrate. The nature of consciousness is on the table again, but we have much better tools to cook up more insightful answers than we have ever been able to give.
The journal will accept submissions and waive author processing charges for the coming two years. I do hope it will manage to collect enough steam to go steady-state by being indexed - that is the tough challenge we are facing. So here, if you are reading these lines and you want to help, AND if you have a pedigree of sorts in the subject matter, I might be interested in inviting you to join our editorial board!
