When you're number one, you are always a target.  Basically, you can't win when you are the world leader in search but critics are ramping up complaints about Google's search engine placement just the same.   

Google is content and specialized-search sites in hopes of boosting ad revenue and that means search ranking by 'authority' drop.   So rivals are taking it personally.   
TripAdvisor LLC Chief Executive Stephen Kaufer said the traffic his site gets from Google's search engine dropped by more than 10%, on a seasonally adjusted basis, since mid-October—just before Google announced the latest change to the way its search engine shows information about local businesses.
Last month, the EU began a formal inquiry into whether Google manipulates its search results to penalize competing Web services or give preferential placement to its own services.
