ZWOLLE, The Netherlands, November 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Dutch company 12Register is forced to change its trade and domain name into 'Realtime Register' as of November 15th, because of a legal dispute with Register.com. This giant in the field of domain name registration finds that 12Register too much resembles her own business and is, since the activities are in the same region, thereby infringing on its trademark.
Due to high costs that would be involved by going to international court, 12Register changed its name to resolve this dispute amicably. For a relatively small Dutch company, only a few years present in this business, it is impossible to fight this in court, because we simply don't have the means, said Peter Langenkamp, co-founder of Realtime Register (http://www.realtimeregister.com).
According to Register.com, 12Register abused its trademark by using so-called typo squatting: the deliberate riding on the waves of success of the domain name Register.com by 12Register.
We chose that name for entirely different reasons. As a new company between major suppliers you need to find something distinctive, therefore we chose a business name that began with two digits so we were at the top of the registrar lists at registries around the world. In addition, it is pronounced as 'One-two-register' which means that a registration is completed within a few steps.
Despite the legal reasons, the new name is even better. Our new name 'Realtime Register' perfectly describes what we stand for and what we can offer to our customers: a real time registration process for many domain name types. Our company has had many enthusiastic customers from all over the world, within just a few years. Customers know how to find a good company; we don't need any guerrilla marketing tricks.
