LONDON, July 24 /PRNewswire/ --

Nearly half of lazy UK fellas believe they come up with their greatest ideas whilst resting on their mattress, whilst 1 in 10 think they find their most useful inspiration on the loo.

The poll also found Britons picked the internet (36%) as the greatest invention or discovery in the world, followed by antibiotics (27%) and computers (20%).

While other runners up included electricity, aeroplanes, language, decoding DNA, the telephone, light bulbs and the flushing toilet. But what Brits would most love is a Time Machine or a Star Trek-style Teleporter in a bid to skip their daily commutes. Other desired inventions included: a vaccine against cancer, a truth serum for politicians and an unbreakable umbrella.

Those polled believe the most pointless invention ever would be an inflatable dart board and the most pointless invention probably is the garden leaf blower, which sits rotting in garden sheds across the country.

Ideas4all commissioned this survey to mark their launch and find out what the UK really wants to see move from an idea to a reality. Ideas4all founder Ana Maria LLopis said: "Ultimately we want to get over a million original ideas on Ideas4all so truly democratise the process of getting the ideas in people's heads actually heard. The UK has an amazing heritage of innovators from Alexander Flemming to Brunel to Trevor Baylis so we expect great things"
