FLORHAM PARK, New Jersey, February 9 /PRNewswire/ --

Global Crossing (Nasdaq: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced that it has achieved the Cisco(R) Powered Carrier Ethernet designation from Cisco. This designation recognizes Global Crossing for having worked to acquire the resources and establish the procedures to deploy, manage and support Carrier Ethernet services globally.

The designation initially applies to Global Crossing's new EtherExtend(SM) Flex Service, which provides its customers with cost-effective and flexible Ethernet access to Layer 2 and 3 data services. EtherExtend Flex already is available in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. It is expected to be available via more than 70 points of presence in those same regions, plus Latin America, by the end of 2009.

Global Crossing is delighted to have achieved a new Cisco Powered designation, said Dave Carey, Global Crossing's chief marketing officer. By achieving this new Cisco Powered designation, we are enhancing our ability to create and deliver high-value network access service offerings to our customers.

By achieving Cisco Powered Carrier Ethernet designation, Global Crossing has made an investment in obtaining the training, skills and knowledge necessary to play a pivotal role in meeting this increasing demand, said Jeff Spagnola, vice president of worldwide managed services at Cisco.

The Cisco Powered Program is Cisco's premier partnering vehicle for solution providers who offer Cisco technologies as a part of their service offerings. This program sets the standard for recognizing a solution provider's investment in the tools and processes necessary to provide high-quality network-based managed services. A Cisco Powered designation not only acknowledges that a service provider has invested in industry-leading Cisco solutions, but also entitles the solutions provider to take advantage of Cisco resources to envision, build, market and sell its managed services, thus accelerating market acceptance and adoption

Cisco recommends services that are designated Cisco Powered because they are designed to deliver a high-quality, customizable service experience, making it easier for businesses to make the right decision when purchasing Cisco technology as a service.
