BARCELONA, February 12 /PRNewswire/ --

- NXP Software Demonstrates High-Quality Video on Single-Chip OMAPV1035 EDGE Processor at MWC2008

NXP Software is demonstrating one of the industry's first high-quality media players on Texas Instruments' OMAPV1035 ARM9-based, single-chip EDGE solution at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2008. Bringing a multimedia performance boost to affordable phones, the LifeVibes VideoPlayer on show delivers 30 frames-per-second QVGA video content with CD-quality AAC stereo sound. Together, the LifeVibes software and OMAPV1035 processor enable cost-effective multimedia solutions for mobile TV, personal audio / video recording, internet-content playback - from sites such as YouTube and Dailymotion - as well as easy video editing, sharing and blogging.

Many new mobile phone use-cases depend on strong multimedia capabilities. As a leading Independent Software Vendor (ISV) for mobile multimedia, NXP Software has developed the LifeVibes suite to enable these use-cases. The integration of the LifeVibes media software on TI's OMAPV1035 processor continues this trend and extends the cooperation between the two companies. NXP Software's LifeVibes music and video solutions are already available for previous-generation OMAP-Vox(TM) solutions, including the OMAPV1030 EDGE and single-chip LoCosto(TM) GSM/GPRS products, allowing OEMs to use the same multimedia framework for various phone segments.

"We see an insatiable demand for new use-cases which rely on a strong multimedia framework, be it video-editing, blogging or managing your music collection," says Cees Geel, Managing Director, NXP Software. "These new use-cases are all supported by LifeVibes and our partnership with TI enables us to provide them on the cost-effective OMAPV1035 platform."

"Exciting multimedia performance is one of the key requirements our customers expect from the OMAPV1035 EDGE processor. Therefore, we are pleased to demonstrate the full multimedia capability of our latest mobile devices. The combination of NXP Software's LifeVibes multimedia framework with TI's single-chip EDGE solution will offer sizzling multimedia performance, making it affordable for mainstream consumers to experience the latest features and functionality," said Victor Epifani, General Manager, GSM/GPRS/EDGE Business Unit, TI.

The demonstration uses software codecs that have been optimized specifically for the OMAPV1035 EDGE platform. Moreover, as the LifeVibes VideoPlayer is a complete software solution, it enables a media player that can play all formats without the need for hardware acceleration, allowing the creation of highly cost-effective end products. To enable visitors to MWC to fully experience the high video quality, the content is rendered on a consumer TV via the TV-out.

Providing compelling end-user experiences, the LifeVibes VideoPlayer is capable of handling broadcast-quality video content at 0.8 Mb/s. It supports DVB-H Full class C video playback and HDTV video streaming services for Mobile TV applications plus the latest media recording formats such as H.264 video and enhanced AAC+ audio for personal video / audio recordings.
