MELBOURNE, Australia, October 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Quintiq, a leading provider of Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) solutions, today announced that Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd. (DBCT P/L) has chosen Quintiq to provide a purpose-built APS solution to optimise its current capacity capabilities and support projected expansion over the next decade. Quintiq will implement the Quintiq Application Suite to fit DBCT's specific bulk commodities planning and scheduling needs and integrate with DBCT P/L's other IT systems.

Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) located in Queensland, Australia, is recognized as one of the world's largest metallurgical coal export terminals. With a current capacity of 68 million tons per annum, DBCT annually loads more than 600 ships bound for ports throughout Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East. The challenges of handling many coal types from various mines, coordinating train unloading, ensuring optimal ship loading, managing onsite storage without cross-contamination, all while coping with the vagaries of weather, tides, maintenance and other variables together create a highly complex planning puzzle. Increasing pressure on DBCT's capacity further complicates this, as demand for Australian coal is growing rapidly, due in large part to the burgeoning Chinese and Indian industrial economies.

DBCT P/L expects the solution will optimise ship and train planning and scheduling as well as increase visibility of yard planning in both the day of operations and beyond. Use of the Quintiq APS solution will support DBCT P/L's goal to increase terminal throughput through automation of many tasks that are currently handled manually to enhance the efficiency of the planning and scheduling process. Other expected benefits include support for the company's projected growth due to the solution's inherent scalability and versatility.

In evaluating its APS solution options, DBCT P/L was focused on the overwhelming need to increase throughput in order to support increased shipping turnover and volume demands now and in the future. DBCT P/L ideally wanted a fit for purpose commercial off the shelf (COTS) solution that would require little or no technical development, would plug-in seamlessly to a transactional system, and would be able to grow with DBCT for eight to ten years. DBCT P/L found precisely what they were looking for with the Quintiq Application Suite.

"At first we couldn't find a COTS solution that would meet our complex planning needs without significant development investment" said Tannas Loskill, Logistics Superintendent at DBCT P/L. "Then we discovered that with Quintiq, we could get exactly what we wanted: a perfect-fit solution based on a standard software package. The solution will work with our chosen transactional system and is fully scalable, so we are confident that Quintiq will be able to grow with DBCT's operational needs over the next 8-10 years."

"DBCT P/L's selection of the Quintiq Application Suite and our long history in serving customers in this field validate our belief that Quintiq has a lot to offer the coal supply chain," noted Victor Allis, Quintiq CEO. "In Australia, where the industry is going through highly concentrated growth, we are on track to become the number one APS provider to coal terminals."

Development of the Quintiq solution for DBCT P/L will commence immediately, with implementation expected to be completed in June, 2009. Quintiq is handling development, implementation and providing full 24/7 support.
