NEW YORK, November 6 /PRNewswire/ --

- Michael Atkin Shines Light on What Financial Institutions Should Prepare for and Focus on as a Result of Financial Market Turmoil

What: At FIMA 2008, Michael Atkin, managing director, of the EDM Council will present his views on EDM and the Roadmap Ahead. Atkin will focus on expected adjustments in the global regulatory landscape, what they mean for financial institutions as well as how they will change the art and practice of enterprise data management.

Where: FIMA 2008, Olympia Conference Centre, London

When: FIMA 2008: 11-13 November, 2008

EDM and the Roadmap Ahead: 12 November: 14.15 - 14.45 p.m.

Why: Data management is now as much a regulatory concern as it is a business imperative for financial institutions. The factors leading up to the current credit crisis highlight gaps in regulatory oversight and will result in significant changes to more effectively deal with the challenges of operational risk. These changes are required given the diversity of market participants, the complexity of financial instruments, the convergence of trading platforms and the nature of global interconnectedness that characterizes the market environment.

Regulatory changes will have a direct impact on data management and will be a prime driver for implementation of the standard tags and identifiers to trace, analyze, compare and oversee market operations. In addition to standards, the Council sees an increased focus on operational risk, hierarchical relationships, pricing and valuation transparency and automation of payment and settlement processes - all of which are highly data dependent.

Who: The EDM Council is a non-profit trade association focused on managing and leveraging enterprise data as a strategic asset to enable financial institutions to increase efficiency, minimize risk and create competitive advantage.
