MANCHESTER, England, April 20, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Global medical technology company, KCI Medical Limited, today announced the opening of its new Operations Hub in the North West of England. Mark Walsh, Vice President EMEA Operations KCI, unveiled the plaque today at the Hub in the heart of the city of Manchester.

The new 20,850-square-foot building will serve as the primary delivery and collection point for over 500 NHS and private healthcare customers, fulfilling up to 1,300 critical orders every week. The Hub features state-of-the-art facilities including best-in-class decontamination facilities, industrial laundry facilities, ample storage for life saving therapies and fully-equipped administrative offices. Moreover, KCI are continuing their ongoing commitment to customers by offering conferencing facilities for hosting external training and events.

Those attending the opening were welcomed with an opening address from Paul Blakey, General Manager KCI Medical Ltd., followed by a tour of the facility combined with demonstrations of KCI's lifesaving therapies including the ABThera(TM) Open Abdomen Negative Pressure Therapy System, a unique open wound management system for delayed primary closure or where repeat abdominal entries are necessary and the BariAir(TM) Therapy System which is designed to manage the clinical challenges of the immobile bariatric patient and the patient-handling challenges of the caregiver.

The decision to come to Manchester was largely based on the city's ability to support the growing demand for KCI therapies. Local stakeholders were invaluable in helping us tap into the information and resources that we required to make that decision, says Blakey. The new Operations Hub the Premier Park is designed not only to support growth in the North West of England but across the UK. We needed a strategic location with a transport infrastructure that offers excellent links, both nationally and internationally, he says.

Present at the opening ceremony, Debbie Gleeson, Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist at St. Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said, KCI is a key player in the wound management arena and we are delighted they are investing in Manchester and opening up their facilities for healthcare professionals in the surrounding area. We welcome the opportunity to work more closely with KCI to meet the ever-changing needs of patients within primary and secondary care settings, she concluded.
