- Spirent Avalanche/290 delivers Gigabit Ethernet Layer 4-7 Traffic Testing in a Portable Form Factor

Spirent Communications plc (www.spirent.com) (LSE: SPT), a global provider of performance analysis and service management solutions, today announced the launch of Spirent Avalanche/290 (www.spirent.com/go/avalanche), a portable load testing solution that empowers corporate IT managers to characterize their network prior to deployment to ensure it meets the most rigorous security, capacity, performance and end-user Quality of Experience (QoE) demands. This highly versatile and cost-effective unit helps enterprises better understand the cost-risk analysis of a network upgrade before delivering a new service or committing to customer service level agreements (SLAs).

IT managers are under increasing pressure to manage networks that reliably and securely deliver on-demand services to employees and customers, said Ahmed Murad, General Manager, Multimedia Applications at Spirent Communications. Spirent Avalanche/290 offers enterprises an economical option to reduce the risks and cost associated with a network outage due to a security lapse or performance limitations, while ensuring optimal performance and access.

Spirent Avalanche/290 enables network managers to comprehensively test Layer 4-7 application traffic at various points in their network. It simulates up to 250,000 users and line rate Gigabit Ethernet Layer 4-7 traffic, delivering the required testing functionality and capacity for a large enterprise. Furthermore, the solution's small size and light weight make it ideal for testing new network applications such as satellite-based Internet access on airlines and other field applications.

Spirent Avalanche/290 can simulate both real world clients and servers as a standalone unit providing several unique benefits. On the one hand it allows network managers to benchmark multiple clients against real server hosting, Web applications, mail or other type of services, while on the other, it can simulate the servers against clients; or - as when testing a firewall or intervening security or content aware device - it can simultaneously emulate both real world clients and servers requiring no additional equipment.

Spirent Avalanche/290 is part of Spirent's Avalanche series of solutions. Spirent Avalanche series delivers the industry's most comprehensive Layer 4-7 applications testing solutions. The platform provides the adaptability to generate line rate stateful traffic up to 10Gbps allowing trunk ports to be directly tested or to determine the impact of multiple GigE ports being aggregated over 10Gbps. Spirent Avalanche supports all major protocols, including HTTP 1.0/1.1, HTTPS, FTP, streaming media, IPv6, voice (SIP), mail (SMTP/POP3), DNS, SSL, Telnet, 802.1Q VLAN tagging, IPSec, 802.1x, and PPPoE and a number of enterprise applications via the capture/replay function.
