About Greg Teaching Technologist, UBC Faculty of Medicine PhD (Zoology/Genetics), MSc and BSc (Microbiology and Immunology), BA (Psychology), currently working on an M.Ed. (Instructional Design), member of the Canadian College of Microbiologists (CCM). Born and raised in Vancouver B.C., Canada. Engaged to a wonderful kindergarden teacher named Johanna, who is an advocate for the disabled (President of the B.C. Coalition of People With Disabilities). Interested in the adaptation of Cognitive Load Theory to science and medical education, particularly in the pre-clinical first and second years of medical school. I spent many years in both basic and translational research in the life sciences, but my first love is cognitive psychology and learning theory, with a bit of decision psychology thrown in. It was most pleasing to me to find out that, after having taken a 20 year detour into scientific research, I ended up back in cognitive psychology. "We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time." --T.S. Eliot. I write in this blog mainly to keep track of my thoughts on science and education from a learning theory perspective. But don't take it too seriously, I'm only an amateur!
