The Climate Project announces that it will hold the first-ever summit in Europe of Al Gore's Climate Project on October 13 to 15, 2008. The event will be supported by the Tommy Hilfiger Group and hosted at its European headquarters in Amsterdam. The Climate Project - a non-profit organization with headquarters in the United States - is committed to raising global awareness of climate change. Its 2,500 volunteers have reached more than 4 million people worldwide - teaching them the solution to the crisis in an effort to preserve the climate.

Tommy Hilfiger has teamed up with The Climate Project to show its support of their initiative, to assist the expansion of their cause in educating and motivating the public to behave in an eco-friendly and conscious way.

"The Climate Project, with its global presence, is in the perfect position to help solve the climate crisis," said Al Gore. "TCP's European presenters -- in Spain, the UK, and elsewhere -- have done a fantastic job of raising their fellow citizens' awareness of the crisis, and I value any opportunity to provide ongoing support to those engaged in this critical effort."

"I am deeply concerned by the growing climate crisis, and respect the efforts the Climate Project have taken to help rectify the situation," said Tommy Hilfiger. "I am thus honoured to be hosting their first European reunion, that strives to encourage people worldwide to be green in an attempt to save the planet."

Former Vice President and environmental activist Al Gore, who is intensely involved in The Climate Project, is also set to participate. During the reunion, 100 European members of The Climate Project team will attend a series of seminars, training them to give a version of Al Gore's presentation -- as seen in the award-winning film An Inconvenient Truth -- to their respective regions.

"We are pleased to be holding our first-ever European training session," said Jenny Clad, Executive Director of The Climate Project. "It is absolutely vital to our mission that we take our project worldwide to increase a global awareness of the climate crisis and to encourage a greener lifestyle."

The Climate Project

The Climate Project, a nonprofit organization based in Nashville, TN, began operations in June 2006 with the mission of increasing public awareness of the climate crisis at a grassroots level in the United States and abroad. By April 2007, a diverse group of 1,000 volunteers from throughout the U.S. had been trained by Al Gore himself to present a version of the slide show featured in the Academy Award-winning film An Inconvenient Truth. As of October 2008, they had delivered nearly 20,000 presentations and reached a combined audience of 2 million people. In addition, TCP initiatives have resulted in the training of hundreds of equally committed individuals in Australia, Canada, India, Spain, and the UK. TCP's 2,500 presenters have reached a worldwide audience of more than 4 million people.
